Investigating Resources
IPads in School
Where it can be found: http://www.ipadinschools.com
What it costs: To get a class set of IPads to use in the
classroom would most definitely be pricey. One of the most up to date IPads,
the IPad Pro, costs about $600. In order to have a class set, let’s say for a
class of 24 students, it would cost about $14,400. That is a little outrageous
to spend in a classroom. Maybe the more cost effective way would be to buy a
smaller set that students can use in small groups or for center time. That way
you could buy less. Let’s say we buy five for the classroom to use and share, that
would cost about $3,000. That is a lot cheaper than buying an entire class set.
Strengths:
·
Keeping up to date
·
BYOD (bring your own device) this allows
classrooms to have a smaller set for in the classroom
·
Allows students and teachers to learn the new
ways of technology
Weaknesses:
·
Things change so quickly
·
BYOD (bring your own device) not all students
have a device
·
Requires a lot of funding that schools and
families may not have
Possible Classroom Uses:
·
Group games
·
Group presentations
·
Virtual/digital testing
·
Classroom discipline such as Class DoJo- this
would be something I would use in my future classroom. This app allows the
teacher to discipline the class as well as keep parents updated about how their
child is doing in class.
Possible Cautions:
·
Acceptance from parents and families
·
Security
·
Supervision and accessibility
·
Reliance on technology
The use of iPads in the classroom
could become an issue if students begin to look at things that are not related
to what is being taught.
Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing how you would integrate Ipads in the classroom. Funding is definitely an issue in many school districts and I know many of us talk about getting grant money, but in all honesty money goes only so far. It would be a challenge to initially collect a certain number of Ipads but once they are in the classroom they can be used in so many different ways. I firmly believe that the lecture classrooms are no longer effective. Students do not learn the same way. When we implement technology that is common and used by students, we can build connections with different groups of students that we may not have been reaching previously.
