Technology as a Group

For our group lesson plan Kellsi, Alexis and I put together a fun, little math scavenger hunt! The following are the links to the documents that we created to go along with our assignment! In order to be able to do this lesson on your own or even with your students someday, you will need to download a free QR Scanning app on your phone or iPad if you do not yet have one.

I hope you guys enjoy this lesson and have fun with it!

Enjoy!

IPads in School

Where it can be found: http://www.ipadinschools.com

What it costs: To get a class set of IPads to use in the classroom would most definitely be pricey. One of the most up to date IPads, the IPad Pro, costs about $600. In order to have a class set, let’s say for a class of 24 students, it would cost about $14,400. That is a little outrageous to spend in a classroom. Maybe the more cost effective way would be to buy a smaller set that students can use in small groups or for center time. That way you could buy less. Let’s say we buy five for the classroom to use and share, that would cost about $3,000. That is a lot cheaper than buying an entire class set.

Strengths:
·      Keeping up to date
·      BYOD (bring your own device) this allows classrooms to have a smaller set for in the classroom
·      Allows students and teachers to learn the new ways of technology

Weaknesses:
·      Things change so quickly
·      BYOD (bring your own device) not all students have a device
·      Requires a lot of funding that schools and families may not have

Possible Classroom Uses:
·      Group games
·      Group presentations
·      Virtual/digital testing
·      Classroom discipline such as Class DoJo- this would be something I would use in my future classroom. This app allows the teacher to discipline the class as well as keep parents updated about how their child is doing in class.

Possible Cautions:
·      Acceptance from parents and families
·      Security
·      Supervision and accessibility
·      Reliance on technology

The use of iPads in the classroom could become an issue if students begin to look at things that are not related to what is being taught.

My First Blog Post!

Here we go! My fist blog post!

My Philosophy of Education in a nutshell:
In education, every child has the opportunity to learn and grow as well as have an equal opportunity to quality education. Every child that enters into my classroom will, without a doubt, feel safe, comfortable, and the joy of gaining a new friend. My classroom environment will consist of many enriching activities that will revolve around play, hands on learning, and learning from each other. I, the teacher, will support my students in everything that they do and encourage all of their thoughts and ideas. Education is learning through actions, by doing and growing. The school year will consist of fun, excitement, learning, growing, and support.

My experiences using technology:
I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work in a classroom for the last four years. In my classroom we had two smart boards and a total of 20 iPads that the teachers and students were able to work with. I have created interactive calendars and games for the students to be a part of. I uses the iPads while working with small groups to show a short video or pictures to help further explain my topic I was teaching.

Technology Integration to me:
To me, technology integration to me means bringing and using technology in the classroom. To me, that is bringing iPads, computers and mobile devices into the classroom that the students will use to learn and grow. Some examples could be interactive powerpoint to teach the correct way to write the letter E. The smart board could be used where the teacher and students practice writing the letter E correctly while other students are using their fingers to correctly write on the iPads. iPads can also be used in small groups or centers for games that are related to what is being taught. For example, letter matching games can be played.

How I will use technology:
In my future classroom, I plan on using technology quite a bit. I believe that it is something that we are never going to get away from in the real world, so we should be teaching our students how to successfully use it to learn and grow. I will hopefully have the use of a smart board and iPads in the classroom that students and myself can use. This will give us the opportunity to research and play in the classroom.
